Ever wondered if your dog could track down a missing person? This workshop introduces you and your dog to the exciting world of mantrailing and search & rescue style training for pet dogs. You’ll gain a wider knowledge of how dogs use their incredible noses to follow human scent trails — and discover just how much fun this activity can be!
How to introduce your dog to following a person’s scent
Practical trailing exercises tailored to each handler and dog
An introduction to search and rescue style work with pet dogs
Dogs will work one at a time, which means they’ll also get plenty of breaks. Watching other dogs work is a valuable part of the learning experience, so handlers are encouraged to observe between their own runs.
All-weather clothing (including waterproofs)
Harness
Long line (8–10m if you have one)
Two small pocket-sized Tupperware tubs
High-value treats (no kibble — think liver cake, fish cake, favourite wet food, cheese, etc. Bring plenty for several runs)
Water & bowl
Favourite toy/ball (if toy-motivated)
A scent article (small scarf, glove, bandana, etc. placed in a resealable sandwich bag)
This workshop is suitable for all breeds, all ages, and all abilities — including reactive dogs. Each exercise is tailored to the individual dog and handler team, making it a supportive and inclusive activity for everyone.
